Trip to Ireland
Day 4- Lough Eske to Donegal to Roscommon and Abbey Hotel- Sunday, November 13, 2022
Had an included breakfast at Lough Eske (It was our 5-star hotel) and got on the road for a visit to Donegal. Even though it was Sunday we decided to see what was open. We were lucky that Donegal Castle was open and we took time to walk through the historic building. Donegal was a cute little town. Someone told us the Old Castle Bar was a good place to go but it wasn't open on Sunday. There were quite a few gift shops open though and we were able to get a few things and get a jump on our Christmas shopping. After exploring Donegal we were on the road again. Most of the way was highway so there was only a short time of white-knuckle ride for our 2-hour drive. We arrived at our next destination the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon before 3:00 The Abbey Hotel is another 18th century mansion which, like the other hotels we have stayed in, is a popular wedding venue. Since we couldn't check in until 3:00 we sat at the bar and had some great service and suggestions from the bartender Michael as to what we should see in the area. He, like all the people we encountered, was very helpful. Our room was ready at three and we settled in for 2 days in the area and then went to the dining room to have dinner. Michael once again took good care of us.
