Alaska - Our 50th State

Day 2 - Sunday, August 21, 2022 - Vancouver to Sea

Slept in a little since we can't board until noon. Decided to have breakfast at the hotel and we had to wait to get in. I had another bowl - acai this time and Ron had pancakes. Went back to the room to get packed up and left the hotel at 11:20 since we decided to walk to the pier. It was only a 10 min. walk - we scoped it out the day before- and wasn't bad even with our suitcases. We got there early but went through and dropped off our bags. From there it was through the gauntlet- a series of stops and long Disney- like lines to check-in and go through customs. By about 1:30 we were able to go to our rooms. Our room is nice- it even has a window and everything we will need for the next week. We took some time walking around the ship to try to get our bearings but I think I'll be lost for the entire trip. Stopped at level 9- we are level 1 and went to lunch at the Lido. There were so many choices - salads, sandwiches, pizza, oriental, Italian, Mexican etc. Went back to the room and our bags were there so we unpacked and got settled before we read our books. At 3:45 we went to watch the ship set sail but we had to wait as 2 other ships left ahead of us and we didn't leave until 5:15. In the meantime though we met Tim and Lorraine from Anaheim, CA. He is an engineer and she a hairdresser. We talked with them until we set sail. Then we got a glass of wine and Rum and coke and went and sat in the Lido restaurant. A couple from Vegas sat down next to us. This was Mace and Cheryl's 24th cruise. It was interesting hearing about all their travels. We were late going to the talk on Alaska so went back to our room before dinner.  We have dinner reservations at 8 every night. We had a seafood cocktail and Ron had rockfish with mussels and I had the Alaskan salmon with dill and capers. Dessert was ice cream and strawberries with Grand Marnier. After dinner we went and listened to the piano guys at the Billboard lounge. They did a nice job playing recognizable songs from our era.  Back to the room for some reading and bed.
