Alaska: Our 50th State

    • Day 1 - Saturday, August 20, 2022 - Oakfield to Toronto to Vancouver

    • It's finally time, after 2 cancelled trips and countless hours downloading apps and filling out forms, we hit the road at 1:00 am. Wanted to leave enough time since we didn't know how long the border crossing would take. Even though it was 2am when we arrived there was only one window open for cars so it took us 35 min. to get through. From there it was on to the airport parking, shuttle and to the airport. The airport was busy but we made it through fairly quickly despite the fact that they didn't have TSA Precheck. We were at our gate a bit more than 2 hours ahead of time but that was ok. We left just about on time- 15 min. late - and had an uneventful 5 hour flight from Toronto to Vancouver, BC. Arrived at 9:00 am.,picked up our luggage and got an Uber. It was about a 30 min. drive from the airport to our hotel. The Pinnacle Harborfront Hotel was nice and very conveniently located close to the pier. I'll bet most of the guests are cruisers. We went to explore the waterfront and scout out where we had to embark. In the meantime we stopped and had some Turkish tea and Baklava. After our walk we stopped and had breakfast. We'd been up quite a while already. It was very busy so we had to wait to be seated. The food was worth the wait though. I had a delicious quinoa breakfast bowl and Ron had a breakfast sandwich. We went back to the hotel hoping our room would be ready. We had arrived at 10 and check in is 3 and it was almost then when we got our room. We walked the other section of the waterfront and stopped for a gelato. Then we ventured off to Stanley Park - named after the Stanley Cup guy- who donated all this land for a public park. We only walked some of it as it is a huge area. It must be the place to be married though as we saw 4 different weddings during our walk. We walked back toward our hotel and went to dinner at the Catcus Club on the water. Ron had a Cajun Chicken Sandwich with fries and sticking with my bowl theme I had a Tuna Poke Bowl - Yum. Back to the hotel and to bed fairly early.  It had been a long but good day and we did a lot of walking - 20,000 steps today.
