Trip to Costa Rica

Day 10 - Saturday, January 15, 2022 - Depart for Newark

We got to sleep in today as luggage doesn't have to be out until 10. The shuttle took us to the airport at 10:30 and since we were all checked in already, we got through security and everything very quickly. Our flight left on time at 1:55 and when we landed, we had to wait a little while for our luggage, but we had landed about 45 min. early. We have Global Entry, so we were able to pass about 300 people in line to get through customs and immigration. I thought we might have to show proof of our Covid test, but I guess if the airline deems you travel ready that is all they require. Even though there was more paperwork before we went and some to return it was really good to be back traveling. Looking forward to more adventures in the future.  In fact, we've already booked a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos in late September!

  Day 5 - Abbey Hotel, Roscommon - Monday, November 14, 2022  There was no breakfast at this hotel so we went out and found a cute neighborhood bakery, Molloy's, for breakfast and had some breakfast wraps. We decided to spend the morning exploring the city center of Roscommon. Our first stop was the Sacred Heart Church. We like seeing the old cathedrals of Europe.  We walked to the square and did some shopping. Ron also stopped in their Alzheimer Office and bought some Christmas cards. We then drove to Strokestown to visit the National Famine Museum. It was very informative and it helped you understand why the Irish were compelled to take the risky trip to the US or Canada. I guess I never understood the full extent of the conditions that the Irish were experiencing. We returned to the Abbey and then went back to the city center for dinner.  We ate at Regan's Gastro Pub. Trip to Ireland

Day 6 - Abbey Hotel, Roscommon to Dunboyne Castle to Dublin - Tuesday, November 15, 2022 Our initial thought was to drive to Dublin and find a place to park but we decided to go to Dunboyne Castle first. The hotel is only 18 km from Dublin so we took a taxi to avoid the drive, parking and uncertainty of where we were going exactly. A taxi was at the door when we went out and we had a nice driver who gave us information on Dublin and where to visit and shop. Our first stop was to hop on the bus and take the tour of Dublin. We had a great guide and got to see many of the highlights. From there we popped into Murray's Bar and had some soup for lunch. Then we went to a shop across the street and aided the Irish economy by doing some more Christmas shopping. Even though it was only 4:00 the traffic was bad and it took a while to make the short trip to the hotel.  Along the way the taxi driver told us that Dunboyne Castle  used to be a home for unwed mothers run by the nuns in the 5...
