Trip to Costa Rica

 Day 3 - Saturday, January 8, 2022 - Day in Arenal

Today is our true vacation day. We slept until 8 since we don't have any excursions until 4:30. We had a leisurely breakfast and then walked the grounds. It is a beautiful place with lush green vegetation, colorful flowers, huge iguanas, and an assortment of birds. We have been told not to go by the river as there are crocs but we haven't seen any so far. I took some time to blog while Ron rested. We have some busy strenuous days ahead so we will be pampered today with rest, relaxation, thermal spas, dinner etc. We took some time and rested by the pool before getting ready to go to the thermal spas. This area is known for its many spas due to its proximity to Arenal Volcano. The spa was only about 30 minutes away from the hotel and it was a wonderful relaxing experience. The piña coladas weren't bad either. After two hours in the various pools with different temperatures we went to dinner on site. It was a delicious buffet with typical Costa Rican fare.

  Day 5 - Abbey Hotel, Roscommon - Monday, November 14, 2022  There was no breakfast at this hotel so we went out and found a cute neighborhood bakery, Molloy's, for breakfast and had some breakfast wraps. We decided to spend the morning exploring the city center of Roscommon. Our first stop was the Sacred Heart Church. We like seeing the old cathedrals of Europe.  We walked to the square and did some shopping. Ron also stopped in their Alzheimer Office and bought some Christmas cards. We then drove to Strokestown to visit the National Famine Museum. It was very informative and it helped you understand why the Irish were compelled to take the risky trip to the US or Canada. I guess I never understood the full extent of the conditions that the Irish were experiencing. We returned to the Abbey and then went back to the city center for dinner.  We ate at Regan's Gastro Pub. Trip to Ireland

Day 6 - Abbey Hotel, Roscommon to Dunboyne Castle to Dublin - Tuesday, November 15, 2022 Our initial thought was to drive to Dublin and find a place to park but we decided to go to Dunboyne Castle first. The hotel is only 18 km from Dublin so we took a taxi to avoid the drive, parking and uncertainty of where we were going exactly. A taxi was at the door when we went out and we had a nice driver who gave us information on Dublin and where to visit and shop. Our first stop was to hop on the bus and take the tour of Dublin. We had a great guide and got to see many of the highlights. From there we popped into Murray's Bar and had some soup for lunch. Then we went to a shop across the street and aided the Irish economy by doing some more Christmas shopping. Even though it was only 4:00 the traffic was bad and it took a while to make the short trip to the hotel.  Along the way the taxi driver told us that Dunboyne Castle  used to be a home for unwed mothers run by the nuns in the 5...
